It seems that everyone these days has an opinion about who Jesus is. Teacher. Prophet. Martyr. A good man, nothing more. However, what really matters though is what the Bible teaches.
He is the Eternal Word of God…
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:1-5
He is God, manifested in the flesh…
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:14
He is the Lamb of God who came to take away the sins of the world…
The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
John 1:29 ESV
He is the Author of Our Salvation…
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2 KJV
The most important question is…Is Jesus your Savior and Lord?
Everything we do as a church and the reason why we exist is because of God’s forgiveness through Jesus Christ. So many people spend their lives trying to earn God’s approval through following the rules or their good works.
The problem with that approach is that we are all sinners and our sin separates us from God.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God…“
Romans 3:23 ESV
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 6:23 ESV
You can’t save yourself. People often try to overcome the sin barrier between them and God through their good works or through keeping the rules. That doesn’t work.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9
God sent Jesus to remove the sin barrier between you and God. Jesus gave his life on the cross and rose from the grave on the third day to demonstrate that his payment for our sin was acceptable to God.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
John 3:16-17 ESV
You can receive forgiveness of sins and eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ by repenting of your sins and trusting Him to save you.
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
Romans 10:9-10
Through prayer you can trust in Jesus Christ.
Admit to God that you are a sinner. Express sorrow or repentance for your sinfulness. Ask Him to forgive your sins. Invite Jesus into your life as Savior and Lord. Commit yourself to live for Him.
